Kids' Stuff for a Rainy Day
Working on Vineyard Wizard

Martha’s Vineyard is an outdoorsy type of place with beaches and biking but there is still a lot to do even when it rains. Don't let a few sprinkles freak you out.

You can keep the kids happy and yourself sane if Mother Nature cancels your beach day.

1. The public libraries have programs, books, puzzles, and a great selection of movies. To take out materials you may need to get a temporary card for $10.00. It CAN get pretty crowded on a rainy mid-summer day. As long as you realize that the librarians aren't free babysitters, and that you are not at Zabar's, you'll do fine.

2. Beadniks in Vineyard Haven is a great place to spend some time buying beads and making jewelry – just be careful, those beads can add up pretty quickly.

3. Ryan’s Family Amusements in Oak Bluffs has a wide selection of video games and skee ball. You may also be interested to know that I RULE at Skee-Ball.

4. America's oldest operating carousel, The Flying Horses, is also in Oak Bluffs. Grab the Brass Ring!

5. There are movie theaters in Edgartown, Oaks Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven. I'll be posting times & reviews soon.

6. If you want to buy a board game or crafts project try:
1. The Toy Box in Vineyard Haven
2. Brickman’s in Vineyard Haven
3. Granites in Edgartown

Many other stores sell great things for kids try:

4. Rainy Day in Vineyard Haven
5. Alley’s General Store in West Tisbury

7. The Mansion House has a pool where anyone can swim for $10 or so. I'll find out their policy & post it here.

8. It’s also a great time to look at some art. Try
1. The Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown
2. Louisa Gould in Vineyard Haven
3. The Dragon Fly Gallery in Oak Bluffs
4. The Field Gallery in West Tisbury

9. Visit Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks in West Tisbury and see glass blowing

10. Ice Skating at Martha’s Vineyard Arena in Oak Bluffs

11. Visit the Martha’s Vineyard Historical Society in Edgartown and check out their post cards

12. Featherstone’s in Oak Bluffs has Art Classes for kids
